ZEL Tau hermetic compressor platforms

Keep the exact refrigerant and 50/60-frequency row tied to the order; the family image and unqualified output numbers cannot replace a current datasheet.

01 / UNDERSTAND THE EQUIPMENT

Choose Tau by its complete model and electrical configuration

ZEL positions Tau toward larger displacement and cooling output in its compressor-platform overview. The reviewed R600a table distinguishes HTH and HVM groups with RSIR/RSCR or RSIR designations from HTT entries marked RSCR. Several exact model identifiers appear twice with frequency entries 50 and 60, so the supply-frequency configuration must remain part of the selection. The separate R134a page lists GVY, GTH, GVT, GKD, GTT, OF and other groups with additional motor/start distinctions.

These are consolidated into one Tau-platform brief, with refrigerant and electrical variants kept explicit. The catalogue does not supply a complete common thermal-test basis and some rows contain zero frequency, input-power, COP, height or weight cells. The original Tau family photograph identifies HTH14AA, R600a, 220–240 V and 50 Hz; that model is not among the rows reviewed on the R600a page, and the same image is used on the R134a page. A family photograph therefore cannot identify an R134a order or validate a table row.

The manufacturer-linked catalogue adds HTH14AA and its I variant with complete unit labels and an ASHRAE LBP test basis. That makes a bounded example possible for the photographed model, while the webpage’s incomplete rows still need reconciliation with the current ordered revision.

Selection and application review

Keep the duplicate model rows as different selections

For example, HTH61AJ is shown with 50 and 60 frequency entries and different output/input/COP columns. HTT61AJ and other models also have separate rows. These are not extra product pages or evidence that one shipped compressor is universally interchangeable between supplies. Request the complete model suffix and the approved supply/frequency combination for the actual appliance.

The reviewed nameplate picture provides a real 220–240 V, 50 Hz HTH14AA example, but does not identify those tabulated HTH61AJ variants. A buyer should not use the photographed nameplate to fill gaps in another model’s specification.

On physical catalogue page 20, the photographed HTH14AA is listed at R600a, 220–240 V/50 Hz with 235 W cooling, 168 W input and COP 1.40 W/W. HTH14AA I is a separate row with the same 235 W cooling but 149 W input and COP 1.58 W/W. Preserve the I suffix; substituting its input power into the unsuffixed photographed model would create a false specification.

Select the start arrangement with the winding version

The R600a table labels HTH as RSIR/RSCR, HVM as RSIR and HTT as RSCR, with Cu or Cu/Al winding entries depending on the model. The R134a table adds further codes and model groups. Obtain the selected electrical scheme and the precise start/protection components included with the compressor.

A code or winding label is not a universal starting-torque or reliability ranking. Confirm the actual appliance’s starting and control conditions with the manufacturer. Running-capacitor entries in the website table lack a complete unit-labelled electrical selection file; no capacitor rating is assigned here from an unexplained number.

Reject the zero placeholders when comparing performance

The R134a page contains rows with zero frequency and rows with zero input power or COP; an example height or weight is also zero. The R600a HVM rows show zero power/COP cells. They cannot be treated as no-energy cooling, a real zero-frequency condition or valid installation dimensions. Ask for corrected current data.

The table headings do not establish the full thermal-rating conditions or all units. Request the selected refrigerant, rating method, temperatures and electrical conditions before comparing output and efficiency. A performance column from one refrigerant group should not be compared with another by assumed common conditions.

The linked catalogue does provide units and its ASHRAE LBP test basis: −23.3°C evaporation, 54.4°C condensation, static cooling and 32.2°C for suction, ambient and the source-labelled subcooling temperature. Use these conditions only for that document’s rows. They do not automatically validate zero cells or unqualified entries on the website, and do not predict installed appliance energy use.

Reconcile refrigerant and pictured hardware

The official R134a page uses the same Tau photograph labelled R600a. The photograph’s HTH14AA identity and visible ports are evidence of that pictured unit only. They do not establish the piping arrangement or refrigerant approval of a GVY, GVT or other R134a entry.

Require a current model-specific drawing, nameplate and application file for the order. Source statements of 95°C maximum shell and 120°C maximum discharge temperature are family upper-limit claims, not desired operating points. Obtain the actual model envelope and permitted combinations rather than running an appliance at assumed simultaneous maxima.

Compare an approved appliance configuration

Issue refrigerant, supply, appliance duty conditions and required start/control behaviour to the supplier. Ask it to propose the exact model/suffix, identify the matching electrical equipment and provide a unit-labelled rating schedule. The platform does not infer compatibility from equal displacement or a similar shell.

Confirm accessory contents, mounting/connection drawings, sample-validation requirements, delivery and written service scope. Current prices, stock and independently measured appliance efficiency are unknown. The review makes Tau’s actual model/electrical distinctions and its catalogue inconsistencies readable without generating pages for every table row.

  1. Choose the exact row

Retain refrigerant, full model suffix and supply/frequency configuration.

  2. Resolve inconsistent data

Request corrected nonzero rating/dimensional data and a current thermal-test basis.

  3. Approve the appliance package

Match start equipment, drawings, application evidence and delivered contents.
