01 / UNDERSTAND THE EQUIPMENT

Resolve the actual twin-compressor and ice-storage rating boundary

DCLCDT is described as a two-stage, twin-compressor centrifugal chiller. Its official headline labels 2000–6000 RT as ice-storage capacity, while the features separately claim a maximum twin-head cooling capacity of 6000 RT. This distinction is preserved: the page supplies neither a selected chilled-water rating nor a time-based storage-energy schedule. The actual architecture includes series counterflow, sequential compressor starting, a single-pass water arrangement and two-stage compression with vapour injection.

The source describes 10–99.99% capacity regulation, anti-surge control, a variable-speed oil pump and a high-level oil tank. These features make compressor staging, lubrication and operation at large temperature lift central selection questions. Published 12% and 6% energy improvements, twenty-year bearing life and lower starting current are supplier comparisons without inspected baselines. They are not adopted as measured savings or warranty. R134a, R513A and R1234ze are listed choices, with CCS TOUCH and optional plant-supervision interfaces.

Selection and application review

Give ice charging its own duty and duration

Issue required chilled-water duty, storage charging/discharging profile, fluid composition and temperature limits. Request separate selected capacity/input tables for ordinary cooling and any ice-making condition. The webpage's RT headline must not be converted into kWh of stored energy without an actual duration and storage-system design.

Approve the evaporator arrangement, fluid viscosity/freeze protection and water-side operating limits for the ordered temperatures. An advertised ice option is not a complete tank, pump and distribution system. Define the external storage equipment and operating responsibilities.

Test twin-head staging against the plant load map

Request the issued series-counterflow diagram, compressor enable sequence and stable operating map at the project lift. Confirm single-head and combined operating duties, minimum load and permitted changes in water temperature/flow. Two compressors do not automatically provide full-duty N+1 redundancy.

The claimed 10–99.99% control span needs an actual selected map. Require the anti-surge response and load-transfer sequence relevant to each compressor, including plant interaction at rapid load changes. No independently witnessed transient test was available.

Select electrical and oil-protection interfaces

Obtain selected voltage, starting method, current/time schedule and permissible interval between compressor starts. Sequential starting may change the electrical profile, but the source gives no project transformer or feeder sizing. Use issued electrical data rather than a general lower-current claim.

Request the lubrication drawing and sequence for the variable-speed oil pump and high-level tank, including low-oil-pressure alarms and loss-of-supply shutdown. Confirm oil handling, filters and inspection access. A stated twenty-year bearing life does not establish maintenance-free operation or a twenty-year warranty.

Accept the machine and the complete plant separately

Request selected water pressure drops and compare pump/tower input together with chiller input. Single-pass wording and percentage savings do not prove a whole-plant result. Obtain exact-model rating/certification evidence where contractual and do not treat LEED applicability as product approval.

Commission ordinary cooling, ice duty, compressor sequencing, oil protections and the ordered building-control protocol. Record actual rating conditions and external-system boundaries. Price, lead time and independently verified lifecycle savings remain unknown.

  1. Separate thermal duties

Specify normal cooling, ice charging temperatures and actual storage duration.

  2. Approve staging

Obtain compressor maps, current schedules and oil-protection logic.

  3. Witness plant interfaces

Verify hydraulic duty, mode changes, alarms and selected supervision.
