01 / UNDERSTAND THE EQUIPMENT

Compare OPTIMA2's DX, direct-air and refrigerant-pump duty correctly

OPTIMA2 is a modular precision air-conditioning family for data centres and telecom rooms. The official page describes variable-speed scroll compressors, EC fans, upflow/downflow arrangements and optional direct free cooling or refrigerant-pump cooling. Those options have different room-air and outdoor interfaces; a single claimed compressor COP cannot represent the complete unit or all operating modes.

The inspected E2009V01.1 catalogue supplies a 40X0 DXA schedule at 460 V/3Ph/60 Hz. Its variable-speed table separates total and sensible capacity and uses return dry-bulb/dew-point conditions. The web page's wider 20–200 kW modular span and the brochure's illustrated module combinations are not silently reconciled into a current selected rating. This brief brings the configuration, energy boundary and approval questions together.

Selection and application review

Approve the actual module and sensible-load condition

The 40X0 nominal code is not one fixed 40 kW duty. The catalogue's primary schedule shows a 43–20 kW span at return 29.4 °C/45% RH and 35 °C outdoor; its variable-speed performance table uses a dry-bulb/dew-point basis instead. Obtain the current selected total/sensible output, airflow, speed/load point and full input power at the project's return and ambient conditions.

Use the selected sensible output for the IT heat duty and include any humidity/reheat requirements. The two rows at identical listed return conditions lack speed labels, so no fabricated minimum/maximum speed is assigned. Approve the actual number of modules and remaining duty during maintenance or failure; modular expansion alone does not establish redundancy.

Choose the economiser by its air and refrigeration interfaces

Direct free cooling admits outdoor air and needs intake, discharge, filtration and humidity/contamination limits. Its 40X0 table lists 23, 30, 38 and 45 kW at indoor/outdoor differences of 6, 8, 10 and 12 °C, with return 29.4 °C DB/11.1 °C DP. These are temperature-dependent ventilation duties, not an unconditional addition to DX capacity.

The RPU option instead uses a refrigerant-pump circuit without bringing outside air into the room or using evaporative water, according to the catalogue. Obtain its operating envelope and transitions between pump, hybrid and compressor modes. Specify which option is actually delivered and how it interfaces with the outdoor condenser and indoor unit.

DX mechanical cooling

Variable-speed compressor and outdoor condenser; select sensible/total duty at the actual return and ambient.

DFC option

Direct outside-air path; close filters, humidity eligibility, penetrations, exhaust and mode transitions.

RPU option

Pumped-refrigerant economiser; close refrigerant piping, pump/control dependencies and temperature envelope.

Keep compressor COP separate from full-unit and annual efficiency

The webpage claims compressor COP above 14 at rated operation and as high as 19 at part load. It does not provide the complete unit energy boundary for those figures. The catalogue labels its unit EER column with an unusual BTU/h/kW notation; this brief does not reinterpret it into a COP or silently correct its unit. Request an unambiguous current performance schedule and test basis.

The brochure's New York/Beijing annual comparisons assume a constant 40 kW heat load and 24 °C return temperature. Those assumptions are not this project's weather or load. Include compressors, indoor/outdoor fans, pump/control power and economiser hours in a site calculation. An annual saving or PUE outcome needs its own evidence.

Coordinate condenser space, water options and service access

Select the actual VME condenser, permitted refrigerant run/lift and pipe sizes using current installation instructions. The V-shaped upward discharge description does not establish allowable spacing beside another condenser or against a wall. Obtain approved unit/option drawings and the access needed to remove modules and maintain the separated technical compartment.

The schedule lists an optional 6 kW electric heater and 5 kg/h electrode humidifier with 3.8 kW input. If included, close water quality, supply, drains and their impact on electrical and cooling loads. If excluded, do not describe humidity control as a delivered feature merely because the family is marketed for precise environments.

Set controller behaviour and acceptance against one agreed specification

The source discusses temperature control as close as ±0.5 °C in its compressor comparison, but another feature section states ±1 °C temperature and ±5% RH. Require the agreed sensor locations, control basis and tested acceptance values for the ordered configuration. Neither passage proves an achieved IT inlet condition at this site.

For NetOne/group controls, obtain the controller/software, point list, licence, network dependencies and loss-of-communications response. Specify mode transitions, alarms, restart and remaining duty tests for the delivered DX/DFC/RPU arrangement. Obtain a dated quotation and current conformity documents for the selected supply market. The platform has not tested OPTIMA2, verified inventory/delivery or measured an installed efficiency result.
